Into the WWD League

What Is the Contender Series?

The Word War Debate Contender Series is a 32-competitor elimination tournament designed to identify the next breakout debater in the WWD League.

This is structured, competitive debate. Positions are assigned by the league and do not represent a participant’s personal beliefs.

Performance, not ideology, is the standard.

The Field

• 32 Primary Competitors
• 8 Official Alternates
• Alternates may be activated at any stage of the tournament.

All participants are held to league standards of professionalism and discipline.

Format

• Single-elimination bracket
• 31 total debates per season
• 2 debates every other day
• 8:30 PM EST live broadcast start time
• Full 60-minute debate per matchup
• Live voting + bracket advancement
• Each season runs approximately 4–5 weeks.

Prizes & Advancement

Competitors are competing for:

• Cash prizes
• League recognition
• National broadcast exposure
• Official Seasonal Wildcard Qualification
• The Seasonal Wildcard Qualifier earns eligibility to compete at a future 

Word War Debate live, in-person event.

WWD does not evaluate 

personal ideology.

We evaluate:

• Structured thinking
• Adaptability
• Command under pressure
• Argument range
• Performance presence
• Time discipline

   Debate is treated as a disciplined thought exercise.

Where It Airs

All Contender Series match-ups air on official 

Word War Debate broadcast live streams.

Each matchup is professionally moderated, 

structured, and timed.

How to Apply

All audition requirements and submission instructions are located inside the official application.

Only 32 competitors and 

8 alternates are selected per season.

Selection is competitive.
